The purpose of Jovenes en Camino is to intervene and break the cycle of hopelessness and abuse for approximately 80 children by fulfilling the words of the Lord Jesus, 'I was a stranger and you invited me in.'
In a country ravaged by poverty, natural disasters, few economic opportunities, lack of basic public services and even a governmental presence, where crime is endemic…. Survival is the focus of each day.
The children are often the primary victims of these startling circumstances. There is no shortage of orphaned, abandoned and abused children in Honduras. Often, destitute single mothers are forced to put their children on the street by a replacement adult male. It is a form of self-preservation and the male children are the primary victims in this culture.
